WC timing predicament

On my 1937 unstyled WC tractor, the "fire" mark appears through the upper flywheel observation hole BEFORE piston #1 reaches top dead center. When I hand crank it the magneto clicks about 5 degrees after top dead center, well past the fire mark, but she fires right off and hums like a top! However, on my 1944 WC, the "fire" mark appears in the lower observation hole when piston #1 is at top dead center. I cannot get this tractor to run as I am lost on timing it.
