D17 and moving big bales ...

I need a tractor to leave at a farm a few miles away from the home farm. It will only be used to move bales. I have a chance to buy a D17 narrow front gas and was wondering if this tractor will work for me? Is it heavy enough on the front to handle 1000-1200 lb bales? It's a series 4, so it has a 3-point. I know the guy who owns it and it has been babied for years.

What about cold weather starting?

The D-17 tractors were one of the best made.

tony i used my d17 nf to move 900-1000 lb bales for a long time without any weights but much more and i would add front weights.they start good in cold weather if tuned up. good luck david l wilson

She'll handle it. My boss has a series IV that has both a loader and 3 pt. He puts a spear on each end and hauls 2 at a time. I agree with the other post, you might need a weight bracket with the narrow front.
