How do I position distributor rotor position for proper timimg? Where do I locate the timing marks?
Had to disassemble dist. and lost original position.

Thanks for any help

to make a long story short.....
take out the front spark plug and rotate the motor by hand until you feelthe piston coming up on compression with your thumb over the spark plug hole. stop with the piston at top dead center, at the "TDC" mark. you can look in the 1 inch hole on the left side of the fly wheel housing and watch for the "F" mark to show up, then the TDC about 30 degrees later. not the piston is at the top of the stroke. you can also hold a pencil in the spark plug hole and "feel" the piston come up. dont get the pencil stuck.
--now slide the distributor in the hole and look where the rotor arm is pointing. it should be at the #1 plug wire post. if not, remove the rotor and turn a few teeth and reinstall. chekc till you get it right. --timing at TDC will get the mtor to start, the centrifugal advance will make it fire at "F" when it gets up to speed. you can check with a timeing light later after it starts.
--just put the wires on in the right order and you are ready to go.
