I have a series I D17 that leaks oil from hydraulics into the transmission. Do I have to split the tractor to fix this. Any help would be great.

Butch

I just did this last week on my D15. Not a monster job but you want to be sure to do it right. That means a new hose and a trip to a hydraulic shop with the cylinder. It's cheap insurance to have the ram rebuilt. They polished my piston, cleaned everything, put in the 3 rings and assembled it for $15. Also I would consider buying the hose from AC. The OEM hose has a different jacket than the ones that are made up. I wonder if it has something to do with it living in oil?? It is also a harder material than the rubber jacket types. A hoist is good but 2 guy's can do this with no problem. You can make your own gaskets for about $5. The AC housing gasket is around $25 which is a bit much. Also be very careful when you extract the PTO shaft. There is a seal up in there and I can see how that might get damaged. Just try to keep the thing level as you pull it out. It requires some focus. Get new O rings for the PTO and the ram pin....It should go pretty well. Have a long screwdriver on hand so you can reach in through the PTO hole and position the ram as you install the lower pin...New oil and your good to go. My hydraulics seem real sharp now!

Butch; I'm betting that you have either a hydraulic hose leaking or the ram needs a repair kit. Not a major job to pull the lift arn housing off the rear of the tractor if you have a hoist or a cherry picker. John
