Just installed brand new zenith carb on 46 WC. Started tractor and the tractor runs wide open. It's reving beyond normal full throttle operation and I have to shut tractor down immediately as it sounds like it would keep revving up until the motor blows up or something. Checked the throttle to make sure not stuck open, checked lever and manually pushed the throttle closed but but would still race. Whats wrong with this "new" carb?

had a carb do that to me on a tractor i had bought..the owner had taken it off and rebuilt it and put the butterfly back in the wrong way so that it opened instead of closing when it should..might check to see if it is going the correct way when you move the throttle open and closed..might just have to take out screws and move the throttle shaft and position the plate on the other side..little hard to explain but hope this gives you and idea

Sounds like your governor spring unhooked when you were workin on it. Duey

Governor spring is Ok. Moved governor link to carb by hand to the idle position on tractor, still races. It's a carb problem because I put old one on and the tractor idles fine. Also tried new carb out on my C and it does the same thing. Something isn't closing on carb. Could needle be stuck or something else not assembled correctly?

Don't think it could be a needle in the carb, in order to run away like that the throttle butterfly has to be opening to let more air in. Sounds like the governor is pulling the throttle open. check to make sure the lever that connects to the throttle is not installed upside down. Found that on a stationary engine a few months ago. Also found one that had the choke rod hooked to the throttle, although it wasn't on an Allis. Might check though.

Ed, That's the first thing I thought of when I read this; some throttle levers are hooked up differently for different applications. I ran into this last fall when I adapted an old Zenith carb to a Gravely.
