I am working on an Allis B-model'39, and I am hearing a loud whining noise sounding like it is coming from the torque tube/transmission/main drive/don't know where. Drove it around the "block" and the only time is doesn't make this noise is when going down hill, it seems to be a bearing[s] somewhere.Don't have a book, don't know where to separate it...at engine, at transmission, don't know where, HELP..... Does anyone know where I can find a schematic or diagram of main drive???Any other help is greatly appreciated...Thanks for all your help. Muffy

The whine in the transmission is normal for a B or a C. We have a 1942 C that whined from the time it was new. I have a 39B and it also whines. I have a 53B and the whine is not so noticable in this tractor. They especiall whine in 3rd gear. I wouldn't worry about the whine, unless you have grinding or other noises.

Those have straight cut gears and will whine a lot. Probably normal but, as I do not have a B someone that does can better answer you perhaps. My 1948 WD does the same and was that way new in 1948 but still going strong. You might also be certain the gear lube is correct and clean and full. You need a manual to properly service any of this equipment!!

I go along with Dave's idea about the whining- very typical on WD tractors, especially compared to WD45. Second and third gear are especially noticeable. Sometimes it's just the nature of the beast. The advice on getting the manual is excellent- many questions answered in those few , reasonably-priced pages,
