Can I directly replace the axle/hub/nut arrangement on my B with the flanged axle as used on the C?? The flanged axle seems a much better solution than the axle/hub set-up.

The C axle is 6 inches longer and the axle housing is 6 inches wider for this reason. You can change out the entire housing and internals by removing the 4 big stud nuts from the PTO alxe compartment and pulling off the alke and housing assembly as a unit. What is wrong with the B hub? they sometimes loosen up after many years of use, but nothing wrong with this setup.

Stevse, In fact, one of my axle/hub sets was messed up. I got a replacement set, so ok there. I ran across a C from the bell housing back and was taking a keen look at the axles on that, thinking they looked better, no fooling around with the nut. I even toyed with the idea of using the C finals as you suggest, but that would mess up the B as a B. Oh well, I ve got a good spare transmission. Thanks, Eric

Got a set of the B flanged axles today. At least one other set at the yard if anyone else is interested in doing that.

My current collection includes a 1938 F20, 1945 H, 1946 H, and the recently purchased 1951 H. This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life.
