Several years back my father purchased a "C" AC he thought. Well, since I have "Growed Up", I have been looking at that tractor in a different way. From the steering whell and battery box forward, it is the correct configuration for an AC "B", right down to the wide front. BUT, the rear end is a "C", at least the SN starts with a "C". Anybody have any answers to this Quetion that I have been pondering for a while now? Thanks.
Rob

The rear wheels of the B and C attach to the drive
axles differently. The B wheels slip on to the
splined drive axles and are held on by a big nut.
The C wheels attach to the flat ends of the drive axles
with multiple fasteners.

I found this out when looking for a replacement for our
B which had a wheel with the spline torn out. B and C
share some parts, but as I found out, they don't share
axles and wheels.

I am looking at a picture of a '43 b in a book
and see a b with the rear wheels held on by a
5 bolt circle. So I guess you can't identify
a b by how the rear wheels bolt on. Sorry for
the mis-information.

i was just reading my "operating instructions, maintnance, and parts illustration book" for the allis chalmers model C, and on page 33 it shows the optional wide front end, so what you have is a wide front end c. what is stamped on the engine? if your interested, i would be willing to trade my original allis chalmers c manual for an original ca manual.

I had the same problem at first. The c has an adjustable wide front axle, the b has a solid wide front axle. Most everything else is the same.

Fellas, You've overlooked the basic difference...a "B" is a one row tractor (narrow) and a "C" is a two row tractor (wider). All that aside, the easy way to tell is that the steering arm on the steering box points down on a "B" and up on an "A". Lloyd

Gentlemen, The front axle on mine isn't adjustable. It has a boed front axle like a "B". I am going to check and see how the reaer's are attached, cuase right now I couldn't remember to save my soul.
