Have a 1960 something diesel D-15. Did it come with two batteries? We've always had only one, but have had to jump it off many times. Is one 1000 cranking amp batt OK? THANKS.

I have an AC 175, and I put an Interstate 31P-PHD (950 CCA) battery in it. After I did that, no more battery problems at all. STAY AWAY from automotive batteries. They are not meant for use in tractors. The plates in the battery cannot take the jarring and banging.

There is more to a battery than just cranking amps. If the tractor starts very easily, it won't matter much if you use one good battery. If you catch it during the winter cold, and when you need lots of preheat, you'll get more reserve capacity with two batteries.

Wonder if two 1960 batteries had as much cranking amps as one 2003 battery? Thanks for the info.

book says the starter draws about 500 amps. remember it is 175 cubic inches. I would think a very heavy duty automotive battery would be plenty to crank the little diesel. assuming you have good starter, connections and wiring.

Pre-heat? Not sure what that is, but I'm sure ours doesn't work. I thank y'all for your input. I've ordered an Operators manual. Thanks again.
