C water in oil

My venerable, good-running 1948 or so Model C showed up with LOTS of water in the oil late this summer. I know next to nothing about these little beauties. So what's probably wrong? Could this be as simple as a freeze plug I have read about on Model B? Any simple diagnosis of probable problem without tearing down? Absolutely purrs, starts easily, no missing.

Bill, It is very likely that a frost plug has pitted through. Take the vavle cover off and you can inspect them. There will be three of them. If that is not the cause, then pull the oil pan and look for water around the bottom of the sleeves. This would indicate bad O-rings which seal the sleeves. It could also be your head gasket, but my money is on the frost plugs. Good luck, Tim

Tim,

We just ran into the same problem with our newly aquired B model. We got it running like a dream, only to find milky oil after a two-minute run. I assumed it was a bad sleeve seal--after pulling the pan, we saw water running down the #1 main bearing cap. That's when we figured it was probably a sleeve seal gone bad. Could that also be a freeze plug issue too?
