I recently bought a 1938 WC. This tractor has the exhaust going through the hood. I have seen many that have a short pipe that comes out from under the hood. Is my exhaust correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have both untyled WCs. I was told that the below the hood exhaust was for the distillate manifold and through the hood was for the gasoline manifold. Whether or not that is correct, I do not know.

I'm not positive on unsyled WC's but on the styled, the through the hood exhaust was for high compression,(gasoline) and the under hood exhaust was for low compression,(tractor fuel). My dad's 1939 WC (styled)had the exhaust through the hood and my uncles 1941 WC had the exhaust exiting under the hood. I belive a neighbors unstyled WC had the exhaust through the hood. Your 1938 may be corret.

No it isn't correct. The mainfold has been replaced with a later one. Yours should have exited from the side

The side exhaust on the unstyled WC was made for both gas and kerosene. The exhaust elbow on the manifold made the difference. On tractors that started on gas and when hot was switched to kerosene, the elbow was marked K in the casting. On tractors that only ran on gas, the elbow was marked G in the casting. If the elbow you own is marked K and you only want to run gas, unbolt it, turn it upside down, rebolt it, and the tractor will run the same as with a G elbow.

Joe is definitely right on the exhaust.Our1st AC was a 38 WC purchased new in march of 1939 Had rubber tires in front & steel with spade lugs on the back We later cut the steel rims off & welded on rims for rubber tires. Think the size was 11.25x24 My dad turned it over backwards once when it was still on steel He came out unscathed, but the tractor needed a new gas tank.Still have the owners manual for it. Good luck John

Thanks Joe, I appreciate the info. That's what I was afraid of. This is a 1938, we just bought a month ago. I found this tractor 60 miles from home and in my price range. That doesn't happen very often. It runs, needs front tires and cosmetics. Manifold, hood, ect will be replaced. My wife says her Lowboy has to be done to show this spring. I better get on the ball. The WC may be shown as is this year.
