What weight oil and how many quarts are needed for a diesel D-15, please? Should I use detergent oil? Any recomendations for a good operators manual? THANKS.

to your AC/AGCO dealer for the OPERATOR manual. Seasonal oil info and everything else you need to know to operate it.

9 qt. fram filter PH977A 10w-30w oil rated for Diesel use

The problem with detergent oil is that it could loosen up sludge in the engine and possibly clog oil lines. If the engine has only run non-detergent or hasn't had a recent overhaul the risk increases. Non-detergent may be the safer way to go if this is the case..... I think D15 diesels are pretty pricey to overhaul..... just my opinion.

one thing is for certain, if you use non-detergent oil in your Diesel engine, a complete rebuild is going to happen in the near futher.....that's depends on if you havn't totally ruined your engine !

but, then again, signing up as a donor does help keep the rest of the fleet running.

non-detergent oils were sometimes reccommended for the inital start-up of new/rebuilt engines, only reason i'am aware of is that it was extremely cheap and was to be change out and discarded within the first few hours of operation.

I worked for a very large construction equipment manufacturer for 27 years, mostly in the engine- prep department, worked on John Deere, Cummins, Cat, Perkins, Deutz, Detroits, a V-12 air cooled monster i can't remember who manufactured, mitibishi, kabota, Briggs, Tucumsen...i can assure you all left the factory with 15w-40 detergent high TBN engine oil, EXCEPT, the John Deere which came from them already serviced with their oil of choice (?) I might add that they were also the most particular with their other lubricant requirements, and did spot tests regularly.

Thanks! When I had my D19 TD I used synthetic but I did a motor flush first. I haven't bought anything but oil for my Cummins lately.....maybe a non-detergent diesel rated oil isn't even available any more???
