To engage the PTO, FIRST shift the trasmission into gear....this stops the moving parts.!! You don't want to abuse those PTO gears.!!! As long as you are hitched to the snap-coupler, and lift arms..( and the hydrolic is set for weight transfer), you will have traction boost... The system works off a large spring, located in the hitch...the harder the tractor is pulling, the more the spring compresses...moving the hydrolic setting to lift more... With my M&W kit ( 4 1/8" bore), I have had to remove all the washers from the spring adjustment, to help keep the front end down.!!! Even tho I have all wheels loaded, and a railroad iron on the front.!!.GREAT FUN operating these..!!! Steering with the brakes, many times.!!! 2nd gear, and 4x14" semi'mounted is a perfect match, even without a power kit.!!! I would not get in the habit of using the foot clutch latch..it holds pressure on the throw out bearing, may shorten the service life of it..

The foot clutch lookout is also used for when you have to hand crank start the engine according to the manual.

Justin you can shift gears with the hand clutch if the transmission oil is warm but its much quieter with the foot clutch. The lock on the foot clutch was used when using the belt pulley, that was the only way to stop it from turning. Traction booster was a system where, when a mounted implement pulled so hard and the hydraulic controls were set properly it would shift some of the weight of the implement to the tractor. To engage the Pto depress the foot clutch and pull up on the rod.Unless you were using a regular AC 3point adapter you wouldn't get any good of the traction booster system.

The hand clutch is NOT intended to be used for shifting, although some have had success doing it and I have done it occassionally myself. The clutch lockout is intended to be used with the belt pulley so you can engage, disengage and put the belt on with the tractor running. If you get in the habit of using it you usually come up with other uses for it. It is unlikely that a TPH setup will work with the traction booster unless it is hooked directly into the snapcoupler like some of the factory units. JOhn

i can shift with just the hand clutch on mine if done quickly, don't know if that you should or that i can because of wear (dad always did!). never have figured out why the foot clutch has a lockout, not like i'd trust it if the tractor were in gear and running, but it must of had a reason. traction boost aids traction by raising the implement when tires loose traction, and it depends on how the 3 pt conversion is attached as to whether it'll work or not. as for the pto, just step on the foot clutch, wait for things to "settle down", and pull up on handle.

The foot clutch lockout is used to grease the throwout bearing. Two wing screws on bottom of clutch housing holds the cover.
