Allis Charmers 712 Snow Thrower ?

I purchased a 712 complete with mower deck, plow blade, snow thrower, tag along trailer and leaf vaccum system. BTW all in good condition, (except for the tires on the tag along, which I have replaced) The only problem I am having is with the snow thrower, the drive belt keeps throwing off under a medium load, I have replaced the pullys on the spring action of the cross over section on the snow thrower, but to no avail, it keeps throwing the belt after about 15 minutes of use? Any assiatance would be great, even if anyone had the proper belt size for the snow thrower, that would be great. No one in this are has a clue, They have tried to sell me a belt but it was way too thick and ridged would not even make one revolution with out comming off. there seems to be a bit of slack in the drive shaft wioth regards to the cahin tension which connects to the blade configuartion, is this normal, the manual dose not mention this to the best of my recollection.

I'm not familiar with the 712, but I CAN tell you about a similar experience with JD188 mower deck.
Fortunately it was in warranty when the problem kept happening. It was throwing the main mower-deck belt which uses both the inside and outside of the belt. After the 3rd trashed belt, I took the whole thing to dealer and told him SOMETHING IS WRONG!!. After a lot of careful looking , it was discoverd that the 1st pulley on the deck was not seated down properly (most likely missed at factory) and so was riding about 3/4" above the other pulleys. The belt would flip off the pulleys and catch on the underside of the outer blade pulleys which had a 'cooling' fan for the bearings and just tear itself up in about 3 seconds. Not even enough time to hit the PTO switch. 3/4" doesnt seem like a lot, but at engine rpm, things happen fast. Perhaps one of the pulleys on your machine has moved and is no longer lined up.

You may want to check the www.simpletractors.com site. If I recall correctly, they have a link to most of the manuals (available in *.pdf files) from the Simplicity website. If you can't find it, I'd recommend posting the question in the discussion board of the simpletractors site (goto the clubhouse) as the 712 is a popular unit and the folks there are quite knowledgeable of the AC/Simplicity L&G tractors..
