I'm working on a 53 IB and I need to know if this model had a mag or distributer. Thanks for any info

I have CA # 83, it has a mag, my 53 has a dist. My guess would be a mag on the IB. h.b.

I have a 1953 B, serial number 123---. It has the mag ignition. In one of Swinford's books, the serial number that started the battery ignition is given. However, as one gentlemen has mentioned, the cutoff may not have been clean as all mfg use up any remaining parts on hand. Hope that this helps.

I remember reading in one of my AC books that even though the distributor came out (in whatever year) that the magneto was still offered. So, I guess you could have either one. (?) That sounds like it could be in the same catagory as the painted wheels subject....LOL! Steve B.

Hi Dale,

My parts book indicates that the IB had a magneto ignition prior to ser #2836 and a battery ignition for #2836 and later. This would make the change to battery ignition be sometime during the 1953 model year, I believe. Check your tractor serial number.

you will probalby get some variations on this question. most people will tell you the distributor started after 1950 when the model C changed to the CA. I have a 1952 IB which has a mag and i believe it to be original, go figure.

Early CA's came from the factory with magnetos. My CA has a magneto and the CA parts book shows both magneto and distributor ignition.
