I think that my starter is getting tired. It seems to once in a while groan when I go to "crank'er up", and won't start the tractor. (I solved the alternator thing and she's sending 14+V at idle.) It is something that I want to fix before it really leaves me hanging. Where, if anywhere can one get a "rebuild kit" for this starter. I only ask as it appears to be simple. I hope a brush update is all that's needed. Never really done this before but willing to take the challenge, as I've done all the other stuff myself. Thanks in advance for any good information.

Local napa store or other parts store should have all you need. Rebuilt starter if needed.

Pete,
Be sure to check the "button" contact. The head of the button can be ate out and no longer making good contact. Also on the inside check the soldered connection of the field windings to the button. Duey

Pete,
If you want to tackle the starter motor yourself, the first thing you need to do is disassemble it and see what it's going to need. Once you see what you need, you may be able to pick up the needed parts at a local rebuilder, especially if it may need bushings. Good Luck! Steve B.

bushings, brushes, and thrush washers, if the shafts are not wore, and the fields check OK. a new bendix wouldn't be a bad idea while you had in on the bench
