Looking for a 2nd tractor for my small farm this spring. Is the D-17 well supported for manitenance parts? Is it a reliable tractor? Any problem areas I should look at before a purchase?

I owned a 1958 D17 gas for 4 years. Solid tractor, good power. Weak spot was brakes. Hinge pin in bottom is a problem to remove. Add a three point hitch and power steering and your life will be complete.

We have a D-17 also, the brakes are the weak spot, but they are the easiest ones I have ever had to change and the cheapest. Ours is a 58 also, it does need power steering, I guess we should up grade to a series IV.

I have 2 early D-17 diesels that I farm with, I have had no problems finding parts. The only things I know to look for are the usual, does the tranny stay in all gears, do the brakes work, does it leak or use oil,is the steering tight? With diesel engines parts cost more if needed. Good luck, Jeff
