Need help replacing WC fan belt

I changed from a generator to an alternator and need a longer fan belt. It appears that the tractor needs to be taken apart to replace the belt but I know that can't be. The belt goes around the crank. Does the manual crank rod come apart? Any help will be appreciated. I believe this is a 1940 AC WC.

I just pulled the belt off my WC the other day, I found the shaft for the crank starter was in the way also. I checked and found the shaft wasn't all the way out away from the front pulley. I just pulled it forward and the belt slid past it, it was a tigght fit though.

Thanks Zonie, I'll try to pull the shaft out.

Drain the coolant, remove the lower radiator hose, and replace the belt. New belt should go past the shaft for hand cranking with no problem.

The shaft goes into the engine and out the front of the tractor. The belt is around the shaft and that is the part I cannot figure out. It appears that the front will have to be taken off unless the shaft pulls away from the engine.

There should be a spring around the hand-crank shaft, which holds it away from the engine pulley. Spring goes between front casting and a flat-iron bracket.

You should be able to pull the shaft forward and clear the pully.

You can either take the bottom radiator hose off to change it or pull the hood and rad.good luck
