Wd/wd45 stroke

How is the stroke increased in the wd45? is it the crankshaft or the connecting rods? I see a common listing for both cranks and rods in my parts book and they both have a 4" bore right? Is it possible to change the 201 engine to 226 with an original wd block? Peter

Stroke on the 45 is 1/2 inch longer. this is done by increasing the throw on the crank by 1/4 inch. The 201 block can be brought up to 226 specs by using the 226 crank. The rods have nothing to do with dispacement.

JWS is right. However, if you increase the throw and use the same rods, the piston will move higher in the block. Perhaps too high!?! Check it out.

Not sure about the gasser.. but the diesels just use a shorter piston, common rods.. (between the D17D and WD45D)Remember the amount increased in stroke.. the uppward movement will only be increased 1/2 that amount. Ex 1/2in longer stroke.. the piston travels .25 further up.. and .25 further down.. but increase the compression.. Good Luck
