I have a WD that recently started to smoke real bad and blow drops of oil out of the exhaust. The oil pressure gauge is reading very high also. Alot higher than normal. Changed oil about 5 running hours before the problem started. Any ideas of where I should start looking ?

Take the large plug out of the side of the engine that is near the dipstick. Behind it is a spring, and the relief valfe piston for the oil pump. If is is stuck closed you could have too much oil pressure. Also, if the filter isn't right it could cause a no flow through the filter situation, which would raise oil pressure some, but I don't think much as only about 1/6 of the oil goes through the filter. Too much oil would not cause a rise in pressure, but it could cause it to blow by the rings maybe and blow out the exhaust. Is the head draining back ok or is it plugged with sludge? Take off valve cover and see if oil can drain back around the pushrods ok. I don't think this would be the problem, it would take a lot of oil up there to run down the valve stems and spit out the exhaust. Do a compression check and see if maybe you have some broken rings?
