WD adjustable fan blade?

Hi All,
I just replaced the radiator on my WD with an aftermarket version. After installation the fan blades are now just barely hitting the lower radiator hose, if I had another 1/8 to 1/4 inch clearance all would be fine. In examing the problem I noticed the fan blade looks as though it may have adjustable front to rear clearance. It has what appears to be two retaining bolts in the fan blade hub (on the sides) that look to give about an inch of front/rear adjustment according to the slot they travel in. I have loosened the two retaining bolts but am unable to get the blade to budge. Does anyone know if the fan blade is in fact adjustable and, if so, is there a secret to adjusting it.
Thank you for any light you can shed on this for me.
Greg

that adjustment is to tighten the fan belt on the non elect tractors ,it's a carry-over from the wc,no starter,no lights no distrbutor(mag.)no elect of any sort. the belt run from the crarkshaft to the fan ,had to adj somewhere. narrow the pully the belt runs higher and tighter.ot

Did you have the fan blade off when you changed the radiator? Is it possible that it is turned around backwards? I have made this mistake before was really worried that I had been sold the wrong water pump for a pick up one time turned out I had the fan backwards.

Thank you for the suggestion but I didn't remove the fan blade during installation. In re-examing the situation it appears as though the engine is offcenter such that the front is lower than it should be. The hand crank doesn't line up either. It looks like new engine mounts or customizing the radiator bolt holes in the frame.
Thank you for your help.

Greg; If the crank doesnt line up it appears to me that the bolts holding the front support angle to the side rails are loose or possibly the shims between the front motor casting and the angle iron are missing. Good luck. John

the adjustment is to open or close the groove in the belt pulleyfor differences in belt thickness

the adjustable pulley is to adjust belt tension on non generator tractors

Are you sure you have the right radiator hose? I got into a situation with my D15 where the curve in the hose made a big difference. Dave

Greg,
That adjustment is for the fan belt width. Adjust it for the width of the belt you are using. It isn't used to move the fan back and forth. Sorry.

I didn't figure it would be that easy.

You got some right answers as far as what the slots are for, but to make the adjustment, that's another thing. Take the unit off the tractor, remove the 1/4 inch bolts, and separate the two halves of the pulley. Typically the pulley has been 'adjusted' with a hammer and punch, which muchrooms the thin material it is stamped out of. grind off the mushrooming, and use emery cloth to get a smooth finish and the two halves should rotate easily when reassembled. A little graphite during reassembly doesn't hurt either.

The slots also allow for a change in fan speed.
