Ok guys I need to know if my dads tractor is a WD or a WD-45. Where is the serial number located on these tractors? The tractor has the hand clutch and it also has the quick coupler. Does that make it a WD-45? Any help would be great. It does have old faded 45 stickers on it but who knows if it is real.
Thanks
Chad

Two quick checks. Straight gear shift lever=WD, curved=WD-45 or very late WD. Look for a bolted on side plate on the right side of the block. Side plate =WD motor, no plate,=45 motor. Beyond that check the area above the rockshaft and below the brake cover on the left side for the serial number and check it against the serial number reference to the left of this page. Here is a link to a page that shows the location.

My WD has a hand cluch i dont think the WD 45 did i could be wrong if you look on the back of the axle housing on the left side you will see the ser.# stamped in it then look on the left side of this page for the link to the serial # page.. hope this helps some.

The only difference between the two are the engine [WD45 has a 1/2" longer stroke, no plate on the side of the block, a taller head, and a bigger carburator],and transmission. The WD45 has the curved shifter that was used on the constant mesh transmission.[The last WDs I think starting the last half of 1952 also had this transmission] WDs had a staight shifter and the gears had straight cut teeth. The air cleaners are also slightly different due to the bigger carb on the 45.
