Tuning a SI-10 Alternator

My WD doesn't run fast enough to make the SI-10 begin charging (sometimes it will - sometimes it won't). The alt has a 2 inch diameter pulley (I don't think I can find a smaller diameter pulley). Is there a way to add a resistor, push button, or whatever to fool the alt into thinking it should begin charging? Once charging actually starts, I can slow the engine way down and the alt will continue to charge. Is there a special brand of alt I could buy that will begin charging at a lower speed?

my alternator guy told me to run a wire from the relay side of the solenoid to the alternator plug that is closest to the one main wire to the alternator. On mine it goes to the left prong. When the solenoid gets elec, so does the alternator so it starts charging.

Snoop around at an auto parts store. I use a 1.5 inch pulley on my 10SI. Ask for a 1.5 inch pulley with a 17 mm (I think) shaft bore. Don't worry about the coolong fan the you might not have - an alternator used in an application like this just won't generate that much heat.

there are two smallterminals F(2) and R(1). The F is 12 volt all the time. the R should have a small resistor to drop voltage and make the generator charge at a lower speed. this wire goes to the ignition switch and is off when motor is off. this is a 10 ohm, 10 watt resistor. you can get one at Radio Shack for $1. it is about as fat as a pencil and 3 inches long, and brown. i will e-mail you a picture.
