I just bought a WD and have a few questions about it. Did the WD have a thermostat or radiator shutters? Also, how is it compared to the D-14 as far as HP. Thanks in advance for the help!! Brandon

We bought a WD new in 1948 and another in 1950. Both came with factory shutters and thermostats.

The WD had both a thermostat and radiator shutters. The WD 201 C.I. engine had 34.63 belt and 30.23 drawbar HP. The first D-14s had 149 C.I. engines and the later ones were offered with 160 cubes. I don't know the HP of the D-14 but I would think something less than the WD. The D-15 was probably closer in HP.

The radiator shutters were necessary if the tractor was dual fuel. If the WD was not dual fuel, generally the shutters were not purchased. Even so, most dual fuel WD's and WC's had the shutters removed and were discarded.

The horsepower on the belt of the WD was 34.6, the D14 was 34.1, the D15 Series I was 43.6 and the Series II was 46.2. The D14 and WD were pretty similar in capability. The D15 was a lot closer to the WD-45 (43.2 on the belt). They are all great tractors!

I've never seen either a WD or WC that was not originally equipped with shutters nor have I ever seen a WD-45 with shutters.

I have never seen a WD-45 with shutters either but my understanding is that Allis did sell some all fuel WD-45's. And they did sell WD's and WC's that were intended for gasoline only. Regarding shutters, I've seen WC's and WD'd with radiator covers without the adjustment hole for shutters (owned one of each). How were the shutters adjusted if there was no crank hole? I'm not trying to be smart, I'm just trying to learn something. Maybe I've been wrong these last 40 years.
