I have a 1944 Allis C. It quit running on day and when you would crank it over it gurgled. I pulled the head off and found two pistons full of antifreeze. Upon further inspection, the block is cracked between every sleve. Is this normal? Can it be fixed or is a new engine in the works? Jim

Look further, the water on the pistons would not have come from the cracks between the pistons. Check the core or freeze plugs in the top of the head. The head could be cracked but as thick as the water jacket is on those heads it does not happen often. Could have been a head gasket as well. Biggest share of the blocks are cracked at the top and with a good head gasket its not a problem. If it just froze and cracked that would be another thing.

Well I went back and looked at it again. The coolant passages closet to #4 were plugged. Also, the head is in good shape. No freeze plugs failed, nor is it warped. The head gasket was the original, as it had an AC part # and logo stamped in it. I am going to put it back together with a new gasket and some sealant and go from there.
