Got a couple. I got this Allis CA engine (with extra parts) in bits all over my shop. It came that way, disassembled, and I have no idea which of the 10 pistons goes with which of the 6 sleeves. I know with Farmalls that when you buy sleeves they come with pistons as matched sets. If I mix and match pistons and sleeves so that I have consistent piston to sleeve clearance, is that all I need to be concerned with? Also, where the heck does one find the O-ring packing for wet sleeves? My nearest Agco dealer is over 100 miles away, so I'm probably looking for a mail order source.

the pistons are not matched to the cylinders. all you are interested in is the clearance. of course the liners should be honed and new rings installed, just like all motors. in case you are not aware, the older B and C motors are use aa spray lubrication system for the rods and main bearings. The CA was the first motor to use a pressureized system. For this reason you can not change some of the internal parts between a C and a CA motor. Hope you know exactly what you have. Like Eldon, i would suggest getting a book and learing more of the two types of motors. I also had trouble with the liner o-rings. I bought a pack of 25 from McMaster Carr on the internet. They are generic Buda-N rings, not "allis chalmers" . I forget the size right off, i miked the groove and tried to "figure it out" they are round when new, the old ones look oval or square, they are not.

Get an I & T manual, they will have the information on piston/rod position and a whole lot more info that you will need to get the engine together right.

I have found the reprints of AC manuals have more information than the IT manuals. IT are OK, will get you by, but AC put more information into its manuals. They cover only one or two models so for the typical size manual they can have more information on the model you want.
