Have a D15...gasoline engine. Sometimes won't start. The cellinoid will click...but the starter won't engage. Getting worse. I think the starter has a bad spot in it. Any ideas before I dig into it. Thanks

might be looking voltage thru old cables or connectors. you can measure the voltage at the starter while cranking (should be 12 volts). or take cables off starter, battery, solenoid, and wire brush and clean everything and reinstall. if any cables look cracked or corroded, replace. After that, you are right, the starter would be the problem.

You might not have power going through the solenoid. I would go from the bat to starter but have it out of gear and key off.I do not want you to get run over.
