I am trying to time my uncle's 1945 WC. The mag was off. Should the mag click (spark) on cylinder #1 when I see the word "fire" in the left side flywheel observation hole under the tractor?

There is an inspection hole at between 7o'clock and 8o'clock on the WC's. Isn't that the inspection hole for timing? Dave.

Crank engine so #1 cylinder is on a compression stroke. Rotate engine so that the "Fire" mark is in the center of the inspection port (bottom or "6 o'clock" position of the bell housing). With mag cover removed rotate impulse coupling backwards until the rotor lines up with the lug at the upper LH corner of the housing--the points should just be opening at this position. Hold this position and install the mag. Firing order is 1-2-4-3.
