B Operating Temperature ?

My '42 B has both a thermostat and a radiator shutter. I had always thought that the thermostat would control the engine operating temp; that is what a thermostat is for, no?

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how the shutter and thermostat are supposed to function together? My shutter has always been wide open for years. Now that I have replaced my old, non-working temperature gauge with a functioning one, I have noticed that the engine never gets up to full operating temp (170-180 deg F). Perhaps my thermostat is stuck open?

if u are not working the tractor very hard and it is cold outside your engine will never reach oper. temp hence the shutters u need to close them down somewhat at the same time watching your temp guage until u reach a happy medium

If not mistaken the shutters are operated manually for summer-winter operations.
