The foot clutch on my Wd does not work but the hand clutch does. I pulled off the inspection plate and metal parts fell out from what looks like the 3 spring arms and collar. I do not know much about these or have a parts book with the names or numbers but I assume these need to be replaced. My question is what are these parts called, can I still purchase new ones, and what do they do? Any help would be great....Thank You Tom

After searching 1500 clutch topics I believe I got some answers. Sounds like the clutch fingers and shifter collar are worn away. What would of caused this? Both foot and hand clutch were fine when I bought it (was sitting awhile), heard noise when pedal depressed one day(sounded like fan belt), then next time no noise but slowly foot clutch would do nothing. Do I have clutch disc stuck to the flywheel, or bad throw out bearing?

Sounds like you need a new clutch plate, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. I bought mine at a local auto parts store. When you split the tractor to get access to the clutch area, use some (at least 2) large (3/4" or 1" diameter) long bolts to keep the frame rails aligned with the rear axle assembly.

You don't neeed to remove the side rail to get the engine out in order to get to the clutch which is bolted to the flywheel. It sounds like you need to do this to see what is wrong. The throwout bearing can be greased brom below if this was done a couple of times during the tractor's live it may be fine. If it is smooth when you rotate it with pressure on it it is OK and if you lube it it will be fine. If you end up taking the pressure plate off of the flywheel (6bolts around the outside of the flywheel/clutch) you will need to line up the clutch plate when you bolt it all back on. If you don't have the clutch plate (disc) nearly perfectly lined up you will never get the transmission shaft to slide back in when you are trying to get the engine back in. You need to get a repair or maintenance manual, the reprints of AC manuals are the best. If parts came out the bottom of the bellhousing when you took the cover off, you need to take out the engine. Repair manual will give you the procedue for this too. If you do want to remove a frame rail you will have to support the tractor. The left rail is easier to take off than the right as the right one has the steering shaft supports on it, and the cover for the belt pully or a belt pully.

I agree with Norm. Taking off those side rails is huge. The engine will come out without removing the side rail, but you must pull the steering u joint off the shaft. It is behind the right side rail.

Good luck!
