Does anyone have a theory as to why 70% of the 30,000 G's made between 1948 and 1955 are 48"s and 49"s?
It would appear that they fell from favor as though some competitor came out with a more attractive small tractor. In fact I wonder if all were manufactured in the late 40's and sold off up thru 1955?

Bud: My G has a 1949 serial #..Although it has factory installed hydraulics that I thought came out at a later date..It makes me wonder if the #s are to be trusted. Mark

The hydraulics could be easily installed on tractors already built. Many many G's had them added on after they were manufactured. In fact, Norm Swinford says in his book that hydraulic systems for the G's were requested for 10 years after the tractor was out of production.

I just reread Swinford's the section in Swinford's book about the G. He actually said the hydraulic systems were still being requested 15 years after production ended, which would put it out to 1970 at least.

The book I was referring to is written by Norm Swinford and is titled "Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985". It is available at amazon.com. This link should work, otherwise just go to amazon.com and search under Swinford.
