Hello Folks:

Well, I guess I'm turning orange. Fordson is gone and I've bought a wd45 to pull my all crop, do my planting and the bailing. The WD45 runs great, has new rear tires but it needs some bushings or something in the seat bracket and foot clutch pedal (bothn very wobbley). I find that the gears are very close together compared to the fordson. One problem is that the shifter lever can be moved clockwise and anticlockwise (twists), not solid like it should be. Makes it difficult to find gears, any suggestions???

The rubber bushings in the seat assembly are available at your dealer and easy to replace. The clutch pedal does not have a bushing, but the casting can be bored and a bushing put in. Same with the brake pedals. The shift lever on a WD45 has two square pins on the ball of the lever (WD has one) to hold it in position. If you ever replace the tower you can use one from a WD if you drill a hole for that second pin. Drill it straight through the existing hole on the other side.

I had a machinist friend make bushing for my seat press it in and for the clutch pedal he rebored the arm and made and pressed a bushing made them both out of brass.the shaft that runs thru that hold your clutch and brake pedals he made new out of bar stock.they are both greaseable now.

Congratulations, pound for pound the WD45 is one of the niftiest tractors out there. Gordon has the shifter problem nailed. I had a similar problem with a seat on a 45, had my machinest get some nylon bushing material and made a new bushing for it. $10 and it made a new seat out of it. I think the real bushing is like $60. John

Start with changing all of the oils, including the final drives. Have a boot on the shift lever that is in perfect condition to keep water out of the transmission. Use the hand clutch a lot, don't worry about the play in the foot clutch lever. You can bore and bush it maybe. the shaft could be worn too. Get manuals, Operators and Repair. The reprints of AC manuals are best. If you ever see a parts manual get it too, if not for part nos. for just seeing how the parts go together. Worth it.

The shifter is held in with a snap ring on top.You take it out the shifter lever. If I remeber right there is a grove on each side of ball,and a pin in the casting they can be replaced or turned.Some timies the groves can be worn also.Those you maybe able to weld and grind smooth. Ten or more years ago that lever was over $200.00.

My brother had a similar problem with a WC. He welded up the groove in the shift lever and we remilled it. Made a new key with a larger stud to fit the worn hole in the shift tower. His lever is not the tightest WC lever going. They stuck way back and all that had any use got to swinging all over the place.
