Choke it to see if it helps keep it going a little longer. If it does then you know where the problem is coming from.

I helped a guy fix his one time and it would spark on the plug when you first started cranking it then it would quit. After changing points and condenser and cap and rotor, we found that the dist was losing ground after it cranked over a couple times. Cleaned the lockdown bar and dist flange and cured it.

If you have a good flow from tank to carb, take drain plug out of carb. If slow there might be a screen in the elbow fitting where the gas line is atached. The float maybe tight or some float valves have a small wire hooked to float, when float falls it pulls valve open. Only on some viton tips they have a knob on the end.

Joshua, I just had the same exact problem with my B. It sounds like a gas problem. Where my problem was, was is the float valve in the carb. If you have rust in the tank, then it will flow in to the carb and clog up the float valve and then when you start your tractor, it drains out the gas in the carb and then your tractor stalls until the carb fills up then you can start it and it will run for a few seconds and it will stall again. I took my carb apart and and sprayed WD-40 in to the gas inlet through the float valve to make sure it it was working, then I put it back together and put it on the tractor and it ran fine. But if you don't have a gas filter, then this will happen all over again (speaking from experience here). Hope this helps, TractorMike

If it stalls with no load, before putting into gear or anything else, check your gas flow. Might be running out of gas, or starved due to low flow. Look in the sediment bowl, and in the tank. Rusty tank inside can do that. Even any small foreign object in the tank that can get sucked down on the gas feed could do it.

Wow, that could be a number of things, but here's a couple to try quick. If it's magneto equipped, disconnect the mag kill wire from the mag and see if will start and run. Sometimes the mag switch goes bad and as soon as the engine fires it shuts off. If that's the culprit, you'll need a new switch. (just take a piece of wire and ground the mag to shut the engine off) Check fuel flow to the carb. Fuel tanks with scale or rust can cut fuel flow. Check to make sure fuel is reaching the carb. There's a couple to try. You need fuel and spark for a gas engine to run. If you don't have one out of the two, she won't run.. I'm sure you'll get more responses...
