Jim, the B with a stock hydraulic system used a low volume high pressure pump. The cylinders are narrow profile high pressure cylinders. The widely commercially available cylinders are high volume low pressure cylinders. To use these cylinders you would need an auxilliary hydraulic unit mounted on the rear PTO shaft. This would negate the use PTO driven equipment while the hydraulic pump is mounted. If you have a rear PTO, you jave the hydraulic pump, to the best of my knowledge. You can fit such a setup with a rudimentary 3 pt hitch, but the B is not the tractor to run a bush hog with, or any other heavier 3 pt implements. I set my B up with 3 pt, and the corn planter setup originally on it provided two lift arms. The original hydraulics won't pick up much weight, I had to attach my lift chains to the back end of the lower arms rather than the middle to allow the pump to lift even the lightest cat. 1 3 pt implement. I guess I'm trying to say that the B is a fine tractor, I enjoy mine very much. But if you want to use a wide variety of commercially available 3 pt PTO driven implements it is not the machine for the job. But restore it & enjoy it, the B has many good points.

Another question. I plan to use our 1940 B to brush hog only a couple of acres. Is there a big difference between a pull behind brush hog or a 3pt one? How will a pull behind do going thru a creek from onside to another (small slope)? Either way I was going to try to get a small one for it. I've seen one with hydraulics and a belly mower. But I think we need a brush hog. Thanks again. Jim

MIne came with the belly mower setup when I bought it. I used the belly mower the first year when the tractor was at my dad's place, the when I moved it to my new place had no need for it, took it off & sold the belly mower setup. The belly mower did alright most of the time, but was really more in the catagory of a "finish" mower rather than a bush hog. It jumped the belt a few times on some multiflora rose bushes & other tougher stuff. Most of the pull behind types the B could handle are likely more like that belly mower than a larger 3 pt bush hog, but that would do alright for a couple of acres kept well enough to keep from hitting heavy growth all the time. Not so sure about passing judgement on crossing a a creek bank I've not seen, but would suggest looking for engine side weights and/or front wheel weights as the front end can be a little light in some situations. The homemade 3 pt setup I made hides the PTO shaft with the bracket for the top link, although I've come up with a way to change that. I haven't done it because I really don't need to just now. All depends what powers the pull behind mower you are considering. The B has a slightly smaller diameter PTO shaft than other newer tractors of that size & power, adapters can be used but the smaller diameter creates a weak point for heavier duty PTO driven bush hogs.
