We just got an old B model that was barn-kept a few years without running. Cleaned her up a little and cranked it over. (We removed the gas tank and set up a small temporary tank with clean gas.) It fires up, but shuts down almost right away. The carb probably needs a kit, but I can't find any numbers on it. I believe it's a Zenith. Does anyone know the right NAPA kit number or equivalent?

Kevin, Most Zenith's have a little round disc riveted to the carb with the part number. If the disc isn't there, then it musta' fell off sometime in that tractors lifetime. Most of the Zenith gaskets are the same I've noticed through the years, so I don't think you'll need a special gasket kit. I've rebuilt quite a few for my customers and so far I've used the same kit on a bunch of carbs. I have the kits in stock (can't remember the darn p/n though)I'm in the office and not at the shop. I get them through Napa/Echlin. If you don't have a Napa near you, e-mail me. They're pretty inexpensive....

Sometimes these carbs only need a good cleaning as they have a number of very small internal passages that tend to get clogged with old gas residue. Remove the carb and completely dismantle it(not a lot of parts in these). Soak it in a good carb cleaner and run a small wire thru all the internal passages, blow it out with air and reassemble. In my experience this is usually all that they need; especially if it ran OK before it was parked.
