I recently took a WD engine down for rebuild and found that two of the cylinder walls have 1/8" groves cut in them from the piston wrist pins. What caused this?

The piston pins need to be clamped into the rod in the correct location to provent just this from happening. The rods are not centered exactly under the pistons front to back and you need to know from the manual or CAREFULLY looking and understanding in order to get them together so this won't happen. When you look in your manual it will tell you. You do have a manual don't you? You will need it to understand the shimming of the bearings too, although it has been covered on this forum I think.

The pistons were installed incorrectly.# 1& 3 have the longer boss of the piston toward the timing gears and # 3 & 4 have the longer boss toward the flywheel.

But, I want to talk about my tractor! We didn't even own a lawnmower, and all of a sudden we had enough grass to feed all the starving children of the bovine world. Naturally, I talked
