I would like to know if my 1953 WD is supposed to be a positive or negative ground electrical system.

Steve is accurate. It was 6 Volt Positive Ground from the factory. But many have had the generators removed, installed an alternator, and been converted to 12 volt negative ground. I'm rebuilding a WD right now and will pretty soon need to decide which way to go.

Your WD should be 6V positive ground originally.
