I have a l940 AC B. the brakes are just about worn out. What is the procedure to install new brake shoes. Will it require pulling the rear wheels? Any help will be appreciated as this is my first Allis. Are the foot brakes adaptors still available?

While you're at it you might want to check your rear shims. The first clue that they need attention is the rear wheel shifting slightly with sideways push at the top of the tire. If it moves, your shims need a look. Of course if it moves the bearings might need a look as well. I bring this up because if there are nests in the rear, and if the brakes are getting bad, likely some water has set in there and the bearings and shims might need some help. Mine turned out that way.

Glenn, John is correct, gain acess to your band(top),Remove linkage ect...The pins can really Bite!!!!! !!Normally spray the pins with penetrating oil for a couple days.Find something hard that you can get in on the pin and find a big hammer you do want to be careful though, drive the pin from the torque tube side toward the tire, you will need to get a smaller pin to drive with after you get the pin to move alittle it is a akward angle. It is not really that hard just time consuming,I don't remove tires unless I have a really hard time with the pins, hope this helps,Good Luck! You have to take off the stuff on top of the casting to access the brake bands. Then get out the pins holding the bands in. I don't remember the exact details, been a long time since I did it. Getting the pins out can be a project if they are rusty. Someone else will have better details I am sure.

Hello, I am doing the same thing right now. One pin is stuck. Been banging the snots out of it couldn't get it out so I finally cut it with a hot torch. The other pin I am still working on. Good luck with the pins. I jsut hope after they are out it is smooth sailing from there on.

after you get the two steel pins out of the housing that run thru the bands, grab the bands with a hook and PULL. i have a 1/4 inch rod with a hook on one end, and a wood handle on the other you can grab with both hands. If it wont roll out around the drum, poke a screw driver down the hole and break up all the mouse nest and wasp mud nest and clean it out. then PULL. if it wont roll out, you aint pulling hard enough.

Thanks so much for all of the info. This is a job I will do when I am finished getting in the winter wood. I have lots of tools and plenty of time so I am sure I will make it.

thanks again, I love these bulletin boards.
