I was at a show the other day where one of the vendors had a small Allis garden tractor with a one cylinder diesel engine. Didn't write down the engine mfg. and can't remember now but it fired right up and ran well. (Probably to good considering how this nut was racing the engine, never could stand that!) He was asking $750 and I was wondering if that was a fair price and if it had any collector value? Any comments or memories are appreciated in advance.

Thanks fellas. Guess I should have bought it. Even thought the mowing deck was missing it would have been fun to ride around on. If the guy that had it at the show this month just north of Charlotte, NC happens to see this, email me. I didn't make it back on Sunday but would like to talk.

Thanks again.

I don't recall any of the Allis garden tractors utilizing a diesel but I'm willing to bet that the folks over at www.simpletractors.com (website for AC/Simplicity garden tractors) would know for sure.

Today's Featured Article - Tractor Hydraulics - The Basics - by Curtis Von Fange. Hydraulics was one of the greatest inventions for helping man compound the work he can do. Itís amazing how a little floor jack can lift tons and tons of weight with just the flick of a handle. Whatís even more amazing is that all the principals of hydraulic theory can be wrapped up in such a small package. This same package applies to any hydraulic system from the largest bulldozer to the oldest and smallest tractor. This short series will take a look at the basic layout of a simple hydraul ...
