I have a WD-45 Allis and trying to ID the year. I found the ID# on rear casing but it does not have a 6 digit # but rather the letters WD-#####. Am I missing somthing. Tractor has factory power steering so I thought it was at least a 1956....Help.

WD45 engine has no bolt-on cover on the right side like the WC/WD. Curved shifter is on late WD, all WD45. Rear axle serial number is the key to ID, but anything can be switched, including rear ends.

The serial numbers on WD-45's begin with just WD. The serial number of the last WD was WD 146606 and the serial number of the first WD45 was WD 146607. There were no breaks or changes in the serial numbers when they went from WD to WD 45.

Straight or curved shifter? I know many of these tractors have been swapped for parts over the years. If the shifter is straight you have a WD tranny and rear end. Sounds like the rear end is definitly a WD. You wrote #####...are there actual numbers?

My friend just bought a 1948 WD (sn WD9xxx) with snap coupler, distributor ignition, and factory power steering. All must have been dealer upgrades since I know the 1948 came without snap coupler and had a magneto (or snap coupler *may* have been an option...). The power steering is definitely factory - even the throttle rods and so forth are made to neatly bend around the unit on the steering rod. So you may have a WD45 and you might have a WD with an upgrade or two ....! Sounds like a 1948 or 1949 WD from the 4 digit serial number.
