I did my 59 D17 3 yrs ago. It was easy to do and Genesee is a great supplier. I agree with Aaron put the electronic ignition in and forgetabout those points. Wait to you see the difference in spark.

Last time I checked, the electronic ignition kits required 12 volt negative ground. So you would also have to convert the tractor electrical system.

They also have 6V positive ground models now - I have one on my Ford Jubilee.

I also install one of the kits from Genesee in my '63 D15. Works like a charm. And at the rate I was killing points it will pay for itself rather quickly. ( tractor sits for long periods, the points had a nasty habit of coroding on me. There is nothing more anoying than getting some time to do some work, and the tractor is running like absolute &^*&^#$ due to bad points. ) The D15 now starts on the second revolution every time.

I installed a kit from Genesee Products in about 20 minutes. I couldn't be more pleased with the system. The dwell and therefore the timing stay constant with this system and I don't have any condensor break downs. I know the ignition on the AC's are pretty reliable and simple, but I do like the solid state kit.
