You need to get no.1 in the firing position. Pull the plug on the front cylinder (#1) and slowly turn the engine over, with the crank, until you feel air being pushed out, it is comming up on compression. Now look under at the flywheel through the access hole, in the bottom of the bellhousing, as you keep turning, the firing mark will come up and the TDC mark. Stop on the firing mark, when it is at the bottom. Now put the distrubutor in so the rotor is pointing to a terminal on the cap. This terminal is now #1, continue around the cap putting wires in, in the direction of the rotor rotation, connecting them up to the plugs in the firing order. The cylinders are numbered from front to back. When you get it going you can put a timming light on it too.
