I was looking to purchase an AC for snow removal on a good size driveway. Does anyone have any input as for a standard front mounted truck plow vs a grading blade. I have seen regular snowplow blades mounted on the front. Is there a kit or plans for this or are these custom? I was undecided on size (B, C, WC, WD)because I was not sure what would suit my needs best. Thanks

my driveway is 1/4 mi long in northern wi, so i needed a good way to plow snow, mounted a plow at an angle attached to the arms of a loader on a D12, works great.

I had a WD-45 with an after market 3pt hitch and a 7-1/2' snowblower on it worked great!! you could always use the hand clutch in heavy snow.

How much snow are you talking about? Six inches or less on average, I'd get an Allis with a 3 pt hitch - and then find a rear blade. Heavier snow? I'd consider a tractor with 30+ hp and a front end blade/loader combination.

A B or C with weight or loaded tires and chains will push quite a pile of snow, but the live hydraulics of a WD, CA, or 45 would be nice. You do get used to dealing with the hydraulics when they are not live though. Have a B with a snowplow and although we haven't had much snow in recent years, I have seen it push quite a good pile. Depends on how much you get and how fast you want to remove it I guess. Chains and some sort of weight will benefit any tractor though for snowplowing.

I have a B with a rear dirt blade. good dual purpose tractor, but always looking behind you. Have seen a WD45 with a loader frame, remove the bucket in the winter and install a V or flat blade for pushing snow. Use the loader in summer for other work. Sounds like a good "dual purpose" machine also.

I've got a 43 model C with a home made front blade that has moved more than one pile of dirt.
Snow is nothing for it .

like to see a picture of it if you have one. does it connect to the front end, or have bracing back to the bell housing or all the way back to the axle? I got two or three ideas in my head, like to see one in actual use.

Steve,
Actually seen a few, but one was on a c in the photo ad section here posted on 9/28/02. He E-mailed me back and said the person he bought it from had made the hook up himself and that he perferred it better than a pull behind style.
