I installed new brake bands today on my 1948 Model B. But with the adjusting screw as loose as it can go the brakes are still locked up tight. Is it possible that these brake bands are for a smaller drum than I have or did Allis Chalmers make only one size? It looks like the adjusting screw needs to be an inch longer to work even though they are the same length as the original screws. Any ideas?

Probably what happened is you got them bent flatter than the diameter of the drum. Some times you can stomp on them real hard and they will bend back enough to drive the tractor. Most of the time when I put in new brakes on the B's or C's you cant push the tractor by hand but the brakes don't drag that bad when you start the tractor and move it back and fourth. You then, as time passes, have keep tightening them as they get back into the proper shape.
