Does it run better if you choke it 1/2 way? If so, you have an air leak on your carb someplace. My D-17 did the exact same thing, I had to buy a new carb to fix it.

My D14 ran fine all summer. Got it out yesterday, and it did like yours. 1/4 turn on the carb. mixture screw and off I go. Air temperature change will change the mixture. Cooler air needs more fuel, warmer air takes less.

On my WD last week, I had a fuel supply problem similar to yours. Open the drain plug on the bottom of the carb float bowl and just watch the fuel stream. It should should not slow up even after the bowl is empty. If it does slow down to a trickle, you have found the problem. Mine was a small piece of silicone sealer had squeezed in somehow..... from a rebuild about a year ago!

I agree with that it is a gas problem. First thing I would check is to see if it has good gas flow from the tank to the carb. I'm betting you have a blockage in the gas flow..

Might be that it is not getting enough fuel from the power needle...is it opened up enough.?? Will it go "rich" and die, if you turn it out.??? If not, clean out the carb bottom...

Sounds like a fuel problem. the outlet of the tank may be partially blocked

Andy
had similar problem with my recently purchased wd.
for test purposes-first of all, will it pick up some speed when you open throttle without trying to move?? if it does, ignition probably ok, but new points & plugs always a good investment. next step tie a string on the governor to carb link rod.then tug LIGHTLY while letting out the clutch. if this helps, it suggests governor problem. governor service is fairly easy, see par 120 in your I&T shop manual. former owner of my wd did some sloppy work, one of the weights was rubbing on pin, spent about an hour on it, now barks like I remember them doing when they were new.
good luck
Willie

Mine did that and it was simply a bad condenser.

if u do find that its a gas flow blockage an inline gas filter did the trick for me even tho the sediment bulb gets most of it some still slips threw.
