If it runs fine--why tear it down all the way..???

With the head off.....flush out the water jacket real good ( clean ) and carefully pour in enough Permatex to coat all the bottom of the block--all around all the sleeves--( about a Pint or so ).....Use a funnel, and a hose... Borderline O-rings, hair-line cracks or not, it won't leak after you do this.!!

It is " Aviation Gasket Sealer "

Made by Permatex...it is thick, but will pour... Comes in pint cans. old AC mechanics used to say to use the thick paint, from old paint cans--to seal these leaks.!!!!!

So then you just dump it into the water jacket? how long do you let it sit before running it? wouldnt want any of that stuff up in the head or in the waterpump,,,we tried waterglass and it really worked good,, my leaks are pretty much gone, but sometimes I get a lil water in the oil,,,I have small cracks in the bottom webbing, will the permatex fix this//?????Jim

Yes, this will stop the moisture from getting into the oil pan..... !!

The aviation gasket sealer will stay where you it belongs--in the bottom of the block----be sure to put it into a clean, dry block.!! the stuff won't mix with water, and would take a very long time to even begin to set up hard...that is why it will seal....!!!! Don't get a bunch of it on the side of the sleeves...it could uneven cooling of the sleeve. You want to get an even coat all around the entire block bottom, around the sleeves. I think 95% of the WD, & WD-45 & D-17 blocks(Gas)have cracks at the bottom webs...!! It isn't all that bad of a problem. We always thot it was caused by Killing it or shutting it off when it was excessivly hot...the heat expanding the lower portion of the sleeve, cracking the web.

Phil, I built a puller when I did my WD this summer. It was crude but it worked. Your local NAPA store may have a puller that you could use or rent if you're in a farming area. If you like, I could take some pictures of the device I made to do it. You will need a laythe to make my contraption.
I changed blocks because I thought that I had cracks in the block in the web area between the cylinders in the o-ring area. However, my o-rings looked bad enough that they could have been the problem in there own right. Now I have a questionable block sitting on the floor!

A good engine machine shop can check your block for cracks.
