Seeking information on the history of the Buda engine and what AC tractors they were installed in at the factory. Can they be used sucessfully in a pulling tractor. How good are they and how long were they installed in AC tractors.

I do not have a book handy so the dates and facts may be off just a touch but Buda manufactured engines, lift trucks and railroad equipment at a plant in Harvey Illinois. A-C acquired Buda in the mid 50s and the first installation in an A-C farm tractor was the Buda designed 230 diesel in a WD-45. Other engines that followed the Buda design were the 262 used in the D-17 diesel, the turbocharged 262 used in the D-19 and a 175 used in the D-15 diesel. The old Buda facilities were known as the Harvey Engine Plant and all A-C built diesel engines were produced there. All of the direct injection engines that went into production, which started with the D-21 were designed after A-C took over Buda. Technically Allis never used a Buda engine, they used Buda designed engines after they took over the company, but that is cutting hairs. The early diesels are Budas to me and most everybody else.

By similar I suppose that you mean one that will bolt up without major modifications? Nope, A-C started out with a clean sheet of paper for the 2800,2900,3400,3500 engines. These were the direct injection engines for 190 and D-21 and the turbo models 190 XT and series 2 D-21. I understand that a 262 head with improved water routing can be used on a 230, but have no experience switching them.

Butch knows what he is talking about. I worked in the Springfield Illinois Allis lConstrucion Machinery plant. WE had the 6 cylinder diesel engines in the dozers in the 1960-1980 era. everyone called them "BUDA". The old wheel loader plant in Deerfield Illinois used the same motors in the articulated loaders (4 wheel drive) during the same period. small motors were probably 100HP and they went up to 375 HP used in the 945 loaders and 325 in the 21C dozers. These were the 21000MK or 844 cubic inch 6 cyl.

I am a member of HCEA Canada. I am writing an article tltled "The Super Dozer Race". Were Buda diesel engines installed in Allis-Chalmers HD-14, 19, 20 and 21 series dozers? If so, what is the technical description of the engines, horsepower, bore and stroke?

Thank you

I am looking a buying a Allis-Buda Generator p/n 6-DC-844. I need to know if it is indirect injection or direct injection for what I want to do with it. Can you help on this? I suspect if it is as old as this forus says it will have to be indirect injection (which is what I want).
Thank-s for any help you can provide.
