I have 2 HD11B Allis Chalmers dozers. Need engine rebuild or to Repower them using some other type of engine.Anyone know what other engine will bolt up to the bellhousing or can be modified easily? They originally had a 6 cylinder 516 cid Buda (AC) diesel engine in them. These are mid/early 50's vintage. I can rebuild at least one of them mixing and matching parts making 1 good engine, but not enough stuff for the other without spending a ton of $$$$$$

COWBOY; I know of a couple of hd-11's that are now powered by CAT. The change was made using adaptions rings on the bell housings and a couple of other mods. The engine they used were mid 60's 3406 cat inline six NON-turbo charged engines. The convertion was not without problems, but it did get the old girls pushing again. It was'nt exactly cheap, but it did come to less than having the original engines rebuilt. This may or may not be the best opion, I would first have a qualified heavy equiptment mechanic look them over, could be,there's not that much wrong with them. Or the engine may be junk, but it would worth a look. In any case there is the CAT opion. Good Luck. John W. P.S. The engines were obtained from a salvage yard, they were pulled out of totaled Kenworth Low cab trucks at around $4000 each.

Thanks for that info,.. One dozer has spun a few rod bearings and will no longer hold any and keeps spinning them, and needs a total rebuild. That dozer is my workhorse. The second one has a good lower end, but the heads are cracked, so I may take parts from both and freshen up and make one running one, but still will need a crank, a few rods, and piston/sleeve assys, and 2 heads. Will cost me about $3500 for the parts and reworking not including my labor. But this is my spare, and chains are worn into the pins, and will cost another $2000 for them parts, and will still need some more work after that. So, guess the 2nd one will become a parts machine and will look around for another better shape one around here.
