Hello,

I have a very early WD #615 with the serial number stamped next to the break cover rather than the "traditional" spot on the rear. Does anyone know at what number the AC folks switched the stamping spot? I'm serioulsy thinking about selling this tractor (sign-o-the-times) and I plan on listing it as rare as I have not seen another...even at some pretty big shows. I also have a "quack" digger for this WD and I've been told there are'nt many of those around either...true?

Thank You in advance,

Steve

Steve, i am a little lost by the question. the WC had the serial number stamped on the center pumpkin, but i thought the WD was same as the WD45, on the left side by the brake cover? or are you taking about a variation of that? sorry i cant help with the digger info.

Steve,

Believe me...it about drove me nuts looking for the sn.# when I found the tractor...scraped paint everywhere...thought it might have even been stolen. Someone on this site told me to check next to the brake cover...and there it was #615. This tractor rolled off the assembly line within the first couple of weeks of production. Someone must have decided to change the stamp location very shortly after this one because a friend of mine also has an early 1948 WD and the numbers are in the traditional spot. This makes the tractor rare but how rare?

Thanks for the response,

Steve

No idea how rare, but I have a picture of the two locations up on my website from a WD45 (!) operator's manual - link below.

MY WD MANUAL SHOWS TWO SPOTS WHERE THE SERIAL COULD BE. NEXT TO THE BRAKE COVER OR ON THE REAR OF THE RAISED AREA OF THE BRAKE HOUSING. MY '50 WD AND MY FRIENDS WD45 BOTH HAVE IT AT THE LATTER POSITION
