I think my clutch is going out. My gears grind a little now when I put it in first and reverse.I have oil coming from the the rear seal and the hole in the side of the fly wheel any comments would be appreciated.

Mark, there are spray cleaners at the parts stores that might help clean the clutch. Do like Steve said and remove starter and spray. I have used electric motor cleaner. It is pretty aggressive on the oil. Some other thoughts are that the oil wick might be to long and binbing in the pilot bushing causing it to leak excessively and be hard to shift. Also, might need to adjust the bearing in front of the transmission. Check past posts for Dick L's comments on this its good stuff. Dale

the leaking rear main seal has put a thin coating of oil on the cluthc. that makes it "stick" or drag and causing the "hard to get in gear" you talk about. sometimes the clutch will stick and you get the tractor moving when the clutch is pushed in. one way to fix this is to remove the starter and use a weed sprayer or pressure washer to wash the insides and cluthc with soap and water, then turn the hose on it. there is a 3 inch hole on the bottom, it will all run out. this will fix your dragging problem if the leak is minimal and buildup takes a few months to reoccure. if you have big puddles on the floor, your rear main seal is gone and wil cause more problems. in short, the clutch aint the problem, wash it off, and replace the rear seal when it gets tooo bad.

Hey Steve, I used some brake cleaner through the starter hole and it cleaned the clutch off just fine it works as good as it ever did. Thanks for the info. mark
